Meet the dedicated team behind the Brigant Lab
Our team is composed of diverse individuals from all career levels, each bringing unique perspectives and expertise. We collaborate closely to tackle complex research questions and drive impactful discoveries that address the critical health challenges faced by society.
Benjamin Brigant, Ph.D PI
Benjamin is a researcher at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. With over nine years of experience in molecular and cellular biology, he specializes in identifying and regulating molecular targets to address complex diseases, including osteoarthritis, cardiovascular diseases and genetic disorders.
His academic journey began in France, where he completed his Master’s and Ph.D. at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens). During his Master’s, he investigated microRNAs (miRNAs) as biomarkers in chronic kidney disease. He obtain his Ph.D. in 2019 with a focus on chondrocytes and cartilage, particularly in the context of the rare genetic disorder MULIBREY nanism.
Following his Ph.D., he joined the Hubbard Lab in Edmonton, Canada as a postdoctoral fellow, where he explored the applications of CRISPR-Cas13 in RNA targeting. His work extended to drug discovery during the COVID-19 pandemic, screening potential treatments targeting NSP15.
He later moved to NTNU, where he studied the role of CD5L in lipid metabolism and inflammation in monocytes, macrophages. Building on these experiences, he have established his own research focus on osteoarthritis and joint disorder biding together previous experience in inflammation and cartilage. He also continue his work on genetic MULIBREY nanism and have initiated new research projects on Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, with a central emphasis on joint and cartilage abnormalities and inflammation.
He is committed to leveraging advanced tools like CRISPR and RNA to contribute to groundbreaking advancements of treatments.
Davina Brigant, Senior Advisor
Davina Brigant is a key member of the BRIGANT Lab, contributing a crucial transdisciplinary perspective. With a Master's degree in European and International Law and valuable research experience gained during her doctoral studies, Davina's expertise spans a wide range of areas.
Not only does she contribute to scientific research projects, but she also plays a vital role in the lab's communication efforts. Davina spearheads the development and maintenance of our online presence, managing our website and social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Instagram, and YouTube.
From crafting compelling grant proposals to ensuring effective dissemination of our research findings across various platforms, Davina's versatility is invaluable. Her ability to bridge different disciplines, both within the lab and with the wider public, is a major asset to the lab's success, particularly in securing funding and raising awareness of our work.
